My Teaching Philosophy
After moving to Nunavut in 2007, I was introduced to Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) or Inuit Traditional Knowledge. These eight principles have significantly influenced the way in which I look at teaching. An Iglu, the Inuktitut word meaning house, is a shelter from the elements, a safe haven. A chose an iglu to represent the IQ principles, because like an iglu the IQ principles create a stable structure to house a productive, healthy and happy society. When developing my personal Teaching Philosophy, I wanted to incorporate my love for nature. It became clear to me that teaching is much like gardening. We do not force the seed to grow, but give it the things it needs to grow on it's own. Click on the arrows below to view My Teaching Philosophy Prezi presentation (KSA #16). |
