My Professional Goals
Goal #2: Inclusive Classroom Environment To establish meaningful relationships with my students and parents to develop a better sense of classroom community. Rationale: I believe that the first step in developing successful students is to first develop positive relationships. Strategies: • I will strive to learn at least 3 "fun" facts about each of my students in the first month of school. • I will host after school activities at least once per month (e.g. Art Club, Sports Activities, Movie Nights etc.) • Please see my Parent Plan for further details about establishing relationships with student's and their family members. |
Goal #1: Incorporate Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) in my daily lessons
To use IQ principles to guide my teaching and enhance the learning experience for students. Rationale: When students can relate new concepts to things that occur in their surroundings or things that they encounter on a daily basis, they are more often to be able to process and retain the new information. Strategies: • I will invite elders into the classroom to reinforce or provide new information to enhance classroom lessons. • I will use local information and examples from the local environment whenever possible. •I will use the IQ values to guide my teaching and classroom management. Goal #3: Variety of Assessment Tools To use a wide variety of assessment tools in order to gather evidence of student learning and to modify lessons according to understanding (performance assessment tasks, oral questioning, exit slips, hand signals etc.). Rationale: I would like to continue diversifying my formative and summative assessments techniques so that I can have a better understanding of what my students know and what they need to know. I would also like to ensure that I use a variety of techniques so that students have an opportunity to show what they know in a variety of ways, as opposed to just evaluating by using tests or quizzes. Appropriate evidence for this goal would be to record daily formative assessments, planning for a variety of assessments in lesson plans, and feedback from students. Strategies: • To improve my formative assessment skills I plan on using checklists for oral responses, homework and feedback from students in every lesson. • I will plan for the use of a variety of assessment techniques in my unit assessment plan and lesson plans. • I will access the progress of my goal on a monthly basis, reviewing what techniques have been used, the relevancy of these techniques, and the degree to which those techniques were successful. |
