What Are We Going To Learn?

Unit A: Interactions and Ecosystems
Source: https://www.msu.edu/~nixonjos/teaching/bio/ecology/ecology15.html
|
Overview: Ecosystems are kept functioning by natural processes in the environment. We as humans affect these natural processes and cause ecosystems to change. We will be learning about what makes up an ecosystem and learn how ecosystems function using natural cycles. We will then look at our actions that can affect these systems and how we can monitor these changes through research and environmental action.

Unit B: Plants for Food and Fiber
Source: Mr. Harbidge, 2007.
|
Overview:
We as humans have always depended on plants for food and fiber for many of our needs. In order to meet these needs people have developed technologies to select for and breed plants with specific characteristics. These plants have been designed to maximize growth and grow in modified environments. In order to sustain our needs as humans we need to recognize how these practices can affect the natural environment. Words to Know!

|
Overview
Heat, a very important thing to meet our needs as humans. We produce, transfer and transform heat to make our lives more comfortable. We will be looking at different sources of heat energy and the impact of using these resources. We will also be starting to look at the particle model of matter to help us understand how heat affects the world around us!

|
Overview
Structures are all around us in both natural and human constructed environments. We will investigate how different materials can be used to make different structures, and we will be testing them uder different loads and forces. We will also look at different ways that structures can be made to make it stronger or weaker. We will also take a trip into the past to examine how stuctures were previousy constructed compared with today.

Unit E: Planet Earth

|
Overview
Our magical planet we call home, planet Earth. We will be looking at the wide range of landforms and materials that make up the Earth's surface and the interior. We will discover patterns that are exhibited in nature and how those patterns The scientific study of Earth is based on direct observation of landforms and materials that make up Earth's surface and on the sample evidence we have of Earth's interior. By studying this evidence, we discover patterns in the nature and the changes that happen over time. We will also investigate how scientists create models to better understand the Earth.
